Family support and projects
In the bosom of the family, the children receive the tools for their later, independent lives. Emmaus Children's Aid supports families at risk so that they do not break apart. We give the parents back their health and work - and the family a home where they can live protected from the wind, rain and cold.
Family help is child help
In addition to the worldwide sponsorship program, Emmaus Children's Aid supports families at risk in a variety of ways in order to free them from the spiral of poverty. Our family aid is help for self-help: it is intended to help father, mother and children to take courage, regain self-esteem and stick together. Where possible, we ask for the active cooperation of family members:
- We procure building materials and tools, seeds and fertilizer, but we have to help build the brick house and cultivate the vegetable garden ourselves.
- We are dedicated to caring for the sick and cover the costs of medical care (special treatments, operations, medication, prostheses and crutches).
- We provide needy families with a dairy cow, a sewing machine, a hand mill, etc. so that they can earn a minimum income.
- We intervene in family emergencies (hygiene and health education, family planning, social work) so that those affected are able to solve the problems themselves.
- We grant small interest-free loans for job creation (opening a store, workshop, etc.), which are repaid in small installments where possible.
Help us to help!
Family support does not only mean that we assist individual families, but that all initiatives and projects undertaken ultimately serve to strengthen the family. Here we present some of the ways in which we support, relieve and strengthen families. We also rely on your solidarity for our family support.

The father of the girl Monisha (next to her father) in Vandavasi (India) was given a bicycle to ride to work.

After a two-year apprenticeship as a seamstress, we bought a sewing machine for our former sponsored girl Shanti in Kodaikanal (India).

We paid for 10 beehives each for three destitute families in Thadikudi (India), enabling them to earn a regular income.

In Guntur (India), we provided emergency coronavirus aid: distributing food and disinfectants to families.

We procured a dairy cow for the widow Arockiammal in Kodaikanal (India). Selling the milk provides her and her children with an income.

This destitute young woman (back) in Gonaives (Haiti) was given a small food store. Now she can provide adequately for her family.

In Nallapadu (India), we built a toilet for 50-year-old Siva Parvathi K., her husband and their three children.

We paid for the construction of a modest brick house for the seven-member family of Yesulu and Kotamma in Siddayapalem (India).

We financed the construction of a small prefabricated house for the former godson Edwin Miguel and his mother Eulalia in Bogota (Colombia).
